The Step By Step story began in 1996 when my husband and I were looking around for a nursery for our first-born — and like all parents, we wanted the best for our child — but were not completely satisfied with what was being offered at that time.
I had graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology from McMaster University but always had a passion for the field of education. The lack of reliable spaces for early childhood development propelled me into pursuing a Montessori certification and eventually a master’s degree in Early Education from the US.
Our First Nursery
We set up our first nursery in Umm Suqeim, Dubai, in 1999, focusing on providing a high quality early learning programme, which is why it became a preferred nursery for families in the surrounding communities.
Our two younger children studied at this nursery and one of them has completed his Ivy League education from Columbia University in New York. The other is pursuing her IB diploma from United World College. We attribute most of their success to the creative, innovative and stimulating nursery environment that they spent their early years in.
SBS has rapidly grown in the UAE; we first moved to Layan (Dubailand) in 2010, which was followed by the launch of our Mirdif branch in 2011 and finally, we launched our third branch in 2017 in Abu Dhabi.
Our Commitment To Early Education
My team and I collectively have some 30 years’ experience in early education and a desire to make a difference in the lives of young children. The activities and experiences we plan for them are not only engaging but have a long-term impact on their social and academic skills.
At SBS, we work hard because parents trust us with their young ones. We play an important part in nurturing a child’s cognitive, social and emotional development and we want to ensure that children at SBS receive the best care and quality early years education.
Most of the children graduating from Step By Step nurseries have gone on to secure admission in some of the best schools in the UAE.
For us, it has been an incredibly fulfilling experience to see thousands of children benefit from our endeavours and go on to become well-rounded individuals.
